about

We will commit to releasing at least one song a month. We'll do it until we don't need to anymore.

These songs are completely free. All we ask in return is that you donate your time and/or money to a local charity focused on providing resources to women or minorities in need.

lyrics

It was good to be alive in 1989
I was barely ten years old, I played basketball each night
We had George Bush the first, but weren’t talking abut war
The government was poor, the economy would dive
But it was still good to be alive in 1989

There can be no story
Somebody else writes
That defines or determines my life

It was good to be alive in 1999
A twenty year old kid drinking beer every night
They say the president lied when he cheated on his wife
We refused to give up nukes, let our history die
It was still good to be alive in 1999

There can be no story
Somebody else writes
That defines or determines my life

It was good to be alive in 2017
I earned another name, I sang for her some things
I saw the stars and stripes willfully divide
At the scream of lonely leaders all to eager to compete
It was still good to be alive in 2017

Hope for those who don’t
Love for those who won’t
Trump hate that has no place
Trump fear forced in your face
Die at 95
With your daughter and wife
At your side

For there can be no story
Somebody else writes
That defines or determines their lives

Here is song #12 for the Undefeated series, which completes year one of what I'd hoped would be a 5-6 song series. The original intention was to release a song a month for free "as long as they're needed". Use our art to offer support to those affected by the new president.

Five months ago my wife and I welcomed our first child into this world. A beautiful baby girl named Clara. From what I've been told, it's common for parents to become very protective after their first child is born. I have a lot of anxiety anyway. That combined with this new, beautiful responsibility and news popping up about nuclear war has resulted in a rough few months. I've become obsessed with worry. I've had issues with OCD in the past and this has felt like that, though I am aware of it and trying to do things to curtail it. Things like minimizing the use of news apps, leaving the house more often, and talking about it.

Last Sunday, my wife took our daughter out to her parent's place in Shabbona. That's when I wrote and recorded this song. Digging through some of our political history was therapeutic and depressing. But at the end of the day I had a new call to arms for myself. A reminder that you can be swallowed by demons or you can address them, know that they are there, and do everything you can to have a beautiful like despite them.

While I hope my songs are able to help others, I know for a fact that writing them has helped me. This one in particular.

Thanks for listening. Undefeated Year Two is coming soon. Please Vote.
